Location: Firehouse Gallery / Burlington, VT
In this 3-hour workshop, participants will build on the itajime shibori techniques learned in the basic shibori and indigo workshop. Additionally, we will explore new surface design methods that utilize stitching, pleating, and binding to create beautiful, intricate shibori patterns.
We will work with natural indigo vats to dye shibori pieces and a range of textiles like cotton, linen, and silk will be used to explore the relationship between different textiles and indigo dye. Participants are also welcome to bring a pre-washed, small textile made of a natural fiber to dye in the vat.
Everyone will leave with an expanded knowledge of shibori techniques and an array of large dyed pieces and samples. This workshop can get messy so wear clothes you don’t mind getting dye on.
